People Over Profits Launches Affordability Ad Calling on Albany to Stop Protecting  Broken 340B System

New ad exposes how New York's biggest hospitals are exploiting a federal drug discount program to enrich executives while everyday New Yorkers struggle to afford gas, groceries, and rent.

New York, New York – Today, People Over Profits launched a new ad campaign exposing how New York's largest hospitals are exploiting the federal 340B Drug Pricing Program to line their own pockets while everyday New Yorkers drown under the weight of rising costs. The campaign calls on Albany lawmakers to stop protecting a broken system and “work for us,” the people.

The mid-six-figure ad will run on TV and digital platforms over the next two weeks across New York – inclusive of Albany, Buffalo, and New York City.

The 340B program was created by Congress to allow safety-net hospitals and clinics to purchase prescription drugs at steep discounts and pass those savings on to low-income and uninsured patients. Instead, some of New York's wealthiest hospital systems are collecting the difference between discounted drug prices and full insurance reimbursements and spending it on lavish art collections and luxury sports sponsorships.

The ad comes as costs across New York continue to soar. A Siena College Poll from April 2026 found that 67% of New York voters say the cost of living is headed in the wrong direction and a People Over Profits survey from the same month found that 58% of likely general election voters name cost of living as the single biggest issue driving their vote this fall. With affordability dominating the political landscape, Albany's continued protection of wealthy hospital executives over working families is a liability voters won't forget.

Transcript: “Rising gas prices, soaring grocery bills, housing through the roof. New Yorkers are drowning, but New York's biggest hospitals – they're thriving, exploiting the 340B program to get rich. One tripled its pharmacy revenue to $600 million while sitting on $40 million in gold. Another CEO pocketed over $20 million. Lavish art, luxury sports sponsorships, all while people suffer. That's not healthcare, that's a racket. Albany, work for us, not hospital executives. Stop protecting the broken 340B system.”

People Over Profits is calling on Albany to stop considering legislation that furthers the exploitation of a program that was designed to serve patients in need, not hospital executives.
